When I started to build a very modern, "shooting range" looking GHK AKMS, I made the decision to use it with a red dot. It's not like me to use red-dot at all, I've almost always played with open sights. I didn't feel the need to, as the joke goes: "airsofters aim with BBs anyway". I take it a bit differently, it's really about observing the ballistics - being aware of the actual firing distance and range. I've avoided using dots on purpose up to now, so that I can get good at observing and handling the ballistics of the weapon, not getting tunnel vision during combat, etc.

I started my search, and after trying out a few red-dots, I considered the following aspects. I was looking for a small, compact dot with a raised mount. Under the raised mount, I needed to see the iron sight, because I wanted to use the red-dot as a backup sight - meaning the iron sight would still be my primary method, and only in buildings and in case of foggy eye protection, I would switch to the dot. The dot does not need to be entry level, but of course should be good value for its money. It's also fine if it is good enough to be fitted on a real carbine. After these requirements, I found the FireField Impulse red dot, which I was able to check out in my local shop (AirsoftGuru.hu). The dot came with a fair price tag, the manufacturer makes it specifically for real steel weapons, so it will be great for airsoft.

The dot itself came in a large cardboard box. The box artwork is correct, I can't think of anything special about it. The box comes with nice contents, such as a paper proof of quality, a wipe and a battery - in addition to the dot also having one battery inside. The dot itself is a 1x22 inset, parallax lens red and green compact dot with two lens covers.

Its black painted body is all metal, and it's heavy for its size. It has a lot of heft. The appearance was also very pleasing, with lots of angled and squared design elements. Compared to the other T1s, the elevated mount has four screws, and you can attach the mount to your gun by hand and a coin. The finish is semi-gloss black, I have seen better in terms of quality. On the right side there is a clearly visible engraved brand text, which is nice and eye-catching. Its battery compartment is on the left side, it winds firmly and slightly clicky. Adjustability can be done by hand with a coin after removing the two caps - there is a flat notch on the adjusters. Its fold-down caps are made of a flexible plastic-like material, with an eye-catching and pretty logo in the middle - of course my first
job was to remove these, I hate their presence.

The angle of view of the dot is very good, the dot inside is clearly visible. Both the red and green dots are adjustable in five brightness levels. Unfortunately, the dot is somewhat blurry, but at least it is very bright. In the darkness of a building or at night, the minimum brightness is also very strong. The aiming dot is in two parts, i.e. a dot in the middle of a ring. Because of the parallax lens, the further away you put it, the more it magnifies the dot, which is very distracting. It's worth putting the dot as close to your face as possible - in return, aiming will be really quick and easy. The dot is 2 MOA and the hoop is 30 MOA, which is perfectly fine even for a real steel weapon. The description says that at max brightness you can get 15 hours of runtime, while at minimum brightness you can get up to 240 hours of runtime. The exit lens, by the way, has a silver coating, not the red option - I give bonus points for this. The dot's bullet resistance ranges up to .308 caliber, which I had the pleasure of testing with "airsoft caliber" the first time I fielded it in Airsoft Arena (local CQB field in Budapest, Hungary). I put a honeycomb killflash on the front of the dot, and then someone shot through the killflash during the first round with multiple BBs - reportedly the user was shooting semi-auto. The killflash had a sizable hole in it and you could hear the BBs popping and cracking on the exit lens. Sure enough, it took direct close range hits, proving the durability of the lens. I can vary the brightness nicely and was able to make adjustments quickly and easily.

Based on my experience with 4-5 games so far, I highly recommend this red-dot. With a fair price, reasonable quality and a guaranteed GBB-proof/real steel-proof design, I consider it an excellent
choice.
